Electric privacy glass is composed of two panes of glass separated by a very thin layer of polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLC). PDLC has a unique property that makes it opaque when not in use, but clear when a current is passed through it. If you have regular glass partition walls in your office and want to transform them into privacy glass, you can use privacy glass film. It would require you to apply an adhesive to your glass, avoiding bumps as much as possible. However, it is a more permanent solution and is not as smart as electric privacy glass! A square meter of 10mm thick toughened electric privacy glass costs AED1050 (plus VAT). A similar size with a thickness of 12mm would cost approximately AED1150 excluding VAT. Of course, this does not include the Labour.
Privacy/Smart Glass Film Price:
Quality privacy glass film ranges in price from AED50 to AED900 per square meter. This option is less expensive but equally effective as privacy glass. You can apply privacy glass film to regular glass. You get the same level of privacy without having to replace your windows with more expensive privacy glass. It is not, however, as adaptable as electric privacy glass. However, sticking film to glass is difficult, and leaving it in the hands of an amateur will most likely result in an uneven and bumpy finish. The bumps appear when the adhesive film gathers and is not firmly adhered to the glass pane. It’s simple if you have a steady hand and the right tools.
Privacy/Smart Glass Additional Costs:
Aside from the cost of the privacy/smart glass, you would also require a 110V – 240V power transformer and wall switches.
